Temporal evocations of place and memory, exploring space as a metaphor for imaginary futures
Against the background of the Zeitz MOCAA silo, the closing performance will explore the embodied memory of space as a lens to process the fraught history of a conflicted past, to critique the present and imagine a humanist vision for the future.
It will create a powerful statement, as it inscribes #FREESPACE symbolically in Cape Town’s city fabric. This vibrant multi-dimensional performance piece is an invitation for young and old; it is a celebration of the #FREESPACE month.
For #FREESPACE, this multi-faceted performance responds to its environment through motion, music, sculpture and mark making. The resulting work depicts ideas around memory and history while it contemplates rebirth. It marks its immediate space, leaves an imprint and transforms its environment while mapping its site and the human connections within it.
Performed by Doke Pauwels with sound artist Gustavo Fasani and live drawing by Sonya Rademeyer. Choreographed by Louise Coetzer with installation design by Oscar O'Ryan.
All events are free. No Zeitz MOCAA admittance fee is required.
